THE RETURN
The 1995-96 NBA season was unforgettable, marked by the triumphant return of Michael Jordan. After the uncertainty surrounding his 1995 playoff stint wearing 45 (and briefly 23), the real Jordan was back, ready to lead the Chicago Bulls to greatness.
By February 1996, any lingering doubts were erased. MJ was selected as an All-Star starter, returning to what was once one of the most exciting weekends in the NBA calendar. At the season's halfway mark, Jordan and the Bulls were in full swing, having already secured over 40 wins in their 82-game campaign. The shortfall of the previous playoffs was clearly just fuel for what would ensue.
The All-Star weekend took place in San Antonio, showcasing an extravagant court design echoed in the iconic uniforms. Jordan sported the teal of the visiting Eastern Conference squad—a look that has since inspired Spurs jerseys and sneaker culture alike.
He also debuted a previously unseen colourway of the Jordan 11s, known then as the "White Columbia", which perfectly matched the event's grandeur.
Jordan capped off the weekend by earning All-Star Game MVP honours. He went on to lead the Bulls to a historic 72-10 record, securing his fourth NBA title. The Jordan 11s would later be immortalised as one of the greatest basketball shoes of all time and, by many accounts, one of Mike's favourites.
The upcoming release of the Legend Blue (as they're now called) represents more than just a shoe; it symbolises resilience, hard work, and the determination to reclaim greatness.
